Leading Australian property developer Peet has launched its first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) after receiving formal approval from Reconciliation Australia earlier this month.
Peet has a long history of consulting and collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across the country. Since commencing its formal reconciliation journey, it has been important to listen, learn, and have conversations about how we can respect, recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage within its operations and communities.
Consultation and engagement throughout this process has been important to ensure Peet develop its RAP in a culturally respectful manner. Throughout this period Peet has worked in consultation with Strategic Cultural Advisor, Dr Richard Walley OAM and community consultant Creating Communities Australia, along with the RAP Working Group, who have helped guide and inform the engagement process and the outcomes included within the RAP.
Peet Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said the process builds on years of ongoing engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across the country.
“Our RAP outlines a consistent national framework for cultural engagement across our business whilst acknowledging the uniqueness of each of our communities. This is a tangible way to create a sense of belonging and connection to the places we live and is part of our ongoing commitment to respectfully engaging with the community to deliver positive social impact,” said Mr Gore.
To support our RAP, Peet commissioned artwork designed by Gubbi Gubbi-based woman, Chloe Watego, which represents the adopted cultural engagement principles – Place, Purpose and People. It tells the story of Peet’s purpose, Defining future places of belonging, and the journey each person makes towards reconciliation through listening and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
Peet's approach to sustainability and creating a positive social impact aligns with the commitments included in its RAP. Across their communities Peet aims to foster community inclusion, embrace cultural diversity and promote community wellbeing; and the launch of our RAP is an important step in continuing our commitments in this space.
With almost 130 years’ experience, Peet has built award-winning master planned communities across the country. The developer has communities in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and Victoria.
