In a major win for families, the NSW Government has announced that Googong is set to receive a brand-new high school in time for Term 1, 2027.  The Googong Public High School will cater to those between Year 7 and Year 12, supporting the township's youngest and brightest minds.

The Department of Education has advised that masterplan options are currently being developed for the 9-hectare site which was officially transferred to the department in May 2024.

"The NSW Government’s announcement is a huge milestone for the community, especially for those who’ll have high school age children in the near future. It represents a major step forward in realising the vision for the community as the town continues to grow towards its projected 18,000-strong population. It will also complement the existing public and private schools within the township, meaning that Googonian families will have greater access to exceptional learning options right on their doorstep,’’ said Googong Project Director Malcolm Leslie.

“Government funding was also announced for early planning work to expand the capacity of the Googong Public Primary School.”

The proposed Googong Public High School will be located adjacent to the future town centre, and less than a 5-minute drive from the existing Googong Public Primary School. The NSW Government’s announcement also indicated that the new high school is being designed with modern classrooms and a spacious multi-purpose hall for sports and performance, as well as specialist classrooms for science, wood and metal workshops, performing arts and hospitality.  

Once complete, it will be the third school in Googong, joining The Anglican School Googong, a co-educational, open-entry, early learning to year 12 school that was established in 2015, and the Googong Public Primary School which opened in 2023.

The proposed new high school is the next step in the educational vision the developers and NSW Government shared for the township, which was prepared in response to well considered demographic analyses in the early stages of planning.

Googong is a joint venture by leading Australian developers Peet and Mirvac and is currently home to over 7,500 people of an expected 18,000 at completion.
