10 YEARS OF BELONING
Sunday, 11 February, 20242014-2024
In a major milestone, February 2024 marks 10 years since the first Googonians moved into Googong. It has been exciting to watch the township grow steadily ever since and there are now about 2,600 homes occupied, with the population currently standing at around 7,400. Ultimately there will be 18,000 people living at Googong.
We’re really proud of the strong community that has evolved over the past 10 years.
Planning and negotiations are well advanced for the first stage of the Googong Town Centre which will include a Coles supermarket, shops, cafes, restaurants, a petrol station, a community centre, library, medical centre, a fire station and more. The Town Centre is planned to eventually include another major supermarket and more retail and dining options as the township grows.
Before Christmas, development approval was obtained for the Googong Hotel which is a $25 million architecturally designed pub, function and entertainment facility. The venue is planned to seat over 700 people across the entire venue and is expected to open next year.
Last year The Anglican School Googong's saw its first Year 12 students graduate, a major milestone for the school. We also saw the first Year 6 cohort from the Googong Public Primary School graduate, highlighting the growth of our schools. It comes as the NSW Government has committed to opening a public high school at Googong in 2027 which will cater to the expanding population of the town.
Already there are six ovals, eight playgrounds, three dog parks, six netball courts, a skate park and pump tracks in the town, and there is so more to come.
Designs are underway for an Indoor Pool and Sports Centre, Tennis Centre, and a Community Centre and Library for the town. In short, it’s a very exciting time to be a Googonian.
On behalf of the project team, I would like to extend my thanks to all Googonians who have shared the journey to bring this township to reality over these past ten years. We're excited to see the culmination of our planning come to fruition in the next ten.
