Bluestone, Mt Barker Turns to Past for Community's Future Expansion
Land now selling in Frederick Park Release
Leading Australian property developer Peet has announced the further expansion of its existing Bluestone, Mt Barker community with the release of its latest precinct Frederick Park. Alongside the creation of a central reserve, the Frederick Park land release marks the next stage of the Bluestone development which will comprise of approximately 200 new lots at completion. The first builds on the site are expected to commence from mid-2024.
Alongside the new housing lots, the expansion will feature a central reserve spanning 200 metres, including many established trees, play spaces, and community amenities. The precinct has been named Frederick Park after prominent early settler Frederick Stone who lived in Mount Barker from 1854 until he passed in 1882. Mr Stone was said to have established the Parkindula Homestead on the prominent Spring Gardens site alongside a large fruit garden. The Parkindula Homestead now sits as both a sales centre and Peet managed community hub while the land estate Bluestone, Mt Barker is developed around it.
“Naming the precinct after the family who first called the area home was important for preserving the important ties to Mount Barker’s history. The development will create a modern space for residents to create new memories alongside a significant green area and amenities; said Peet Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore.
“Frederick Park comes off the back of a year of significant construction activity and continued growth for the Bluestone community. Located near Wellington Road, it will include lots of varying sizes, to house everyone from singles and couples to families. It was also important for us to offer residents an outdoor area that served as a hub for activity while building on the existing nature of the surroundings. It’s why we&r committed to making over a quarter of this precinct open space, more than double the standard required size.”
The central reserve will offer all residents increased open space to enjoy, including a natural playscape, open grassed areas and picnic areas. The design of the new reserve celebrates the existing trees and vegetation which are a centre piece of the new space. In keeping with the need to deliver sustainable regeneration, Peet is also initiating a seed collection drive and hosting tree planting days with current Bluestone residents to contribute to the establishment of native green space for future residents.
The Frederick Park land release is located on the corner of Cheriton Avenue with lots varying in size between 172m2 up to 600m2.The development will create six new streets and the area is already supported by the recently completed $7.5m roundabout at the intersection of Wellington Road and Heysen Boulevard.
The expansion follows the opening of the Mount Barker South shopping centre in August last year which is first of its kind in the wider Mount Barker growth region. The centre is within walking distance of the Frederick Park precinct and includes a Woolworths, pharmacy and several specialty retailers. The next phase of the Wellington Rd development will be a new $20m hotel including a bistro and sports bar, providing greater choice and convenience for the Bluestone community.
