Getting involved in community groups, events and programs can help you to make connections within your community and here at Peet we organise and play host to a range of community-based events and initiatives to help you build long lasting connections with your neighbours. You'll also find that there are a number of residents' associations and other groups who actively run workshops, meetups and events. Here are just some of the activities on offer so start planning what you could be a part of in our communities.

 

School holiday programs are a great way for young kids and teenagers to make friends – the Logan City Council offers free and low-cost school holiday activities for residents aged 5-17 years. Two rock climbing sessions (6-11 years & 12-17 years) will be held at the Flagstone Adventure Playground tomorrow  - 11th July 2019. You can try out the 11m portable rock wall and learn how to belay and climb in a safe environment.

 

 

Cafe Flagstone plays host to a number of community events and workshops for everyone within the Flagstone community. They host regular (mostly free) Mums and bubs workshops such as wool pots creation, butterfly mobile making and sensory board creation all held by Mumma got skills. This is a great initiative to get crafty, meet other mums and have some time out of the house with your bub. Every Tuesday morning Flagstone seniors can get along to Social Seniors where seniors come along with their crafts and games, have a chat, meet new people and share their knowledge.

The Flagstone Community Association run numerous family and community-based events throughout the year – be sure to mark down Sunday 21st 2019 in your diary, as the association will be holding a free active family fun day at the Flagstone Football oval from 10am – 3pm.

 

 

The Repair Café offers Lakelands residents the opportunity to learn how to fix and mend their beloved possessions – you can bring along your items and learn how to repair them with the help of some amazing local volunteers over a coffee. You can also get the kids involved with some great fix-it activities – the next session is on Saturday 27th July 2019.

 

 

Lakelands Community House is the ideal space for holding group meetings or functions such as birthday parties, playgroups or crafting and cooking sessions. The residential house has been transformed into a multi-use open plan community space. Along with a well equipped kitchen, Lakelands Community House also has a fenced backyard that features a playground and decked area – perfect for young children.

 

 

Earlier this year Lakelands residents dusted off their dancing shoes and took part in Dancing in the Dark, at Lakelands Shopping Centre. Local dance groups including Simply Swing, the Hiit Chicks, Fierce Dance and the Young Yorgas were on hand to teach everyone their favourite moves – it was a great evening for the community to come together under the stars!

 

 

 

Last year pooches from our Lakeland’s community took part in a silent doggie disco, an initiative from the Lakelands Youth Hackathon – encouraging youth community leadership in Lakelands.

At the Youth Hackathon, 19 young people made the decision to put on a Silent Doggie Disco with the assistance of Makeplace. The objective of the event being a way of introducing kids to fill in a youth survey about what young people saw as important for the future of Lakelands - a survey for young people, designed and delivered by young people.

 

 

Our entire Golden Bay community was invited to the Car Park Café’s series – spanning from January to March of this year. The event saw the Golden Bay Village car park transformed into a Car Park Café once a month – with plenty of food options, pop-up stalls, giant games, fairy lights and live music, it provided the perfect backdrop for families, friends and neighbours to connect.

 

 

The John Wellard Community Centre is a space at the heart of The Village at Wellard where the community can come together, connect and participate in a range of creative, educational and social programs, that build upon life in The Village. Some of their programs and workshops on offer include; Connect Wellard, ukulele and singing group, social sewing and a Saturday morning children’s lego group that helps children to engage in construction, imaginative and adventure play. You can even run your own program, workshop or event.

The Village at Wellard Residents Association with the support of Creating Communities on behalf of Peet, hold a variety of popular community-focussed events throughout the year – including Super Crit, Long Table Dinner and the Tour De Wellard.

 

 

Picturesque Shorehaven provides one of the most beautiful backdrops for community connection. Shore Things at Shorehaven Alkimos host and run many events throughout the year that bring together the entire Shorehaven community; everything from Easter hunts to foodie festivals to neighbourhood learning. Check out some of their events from 2019.

 

 

The Shorehaven Kids Club provides a fun and informal opportunity for kids within Shorehaven to get to know each other, no matter what school they attend. It takes place twice every school term with a wide range of activities to suit different interests.

 

 

The Parkindula Homestead at Bluestone, Mount Barker has been given a new lease on life as a community centre. Barefoot yoga, meditation classes and various workshops are on offer at The Parkindula Homestead. The surrounding grounds are used for various community based events – you could also take advantage of the surrounding space by holding your own community picnic or get together.

 

 

Club Googong is a "Club for the Community" – The club is located in the heart of the community and is an important meeting place for residents to enjoy a swim, a workout or a catch up with friends in the public lounge.

 

 

Aston residents can now enjoy the wide open spaces of Aston Fields, this impressive area is over five times the size of the MCG! It’s also home to the Craigieburn City Football Club, making it a great place to catch a game on the weekend. It's also home to the Aston Fields adventure playground, which is perfect for a family or neighborhood picnic.
