Community Christmas Celebration
POSTED ON 19 Dec 2024
Our Community Christmas Celebration was extra special this year, with the new Fort open and in full swing!
There was a true sense of community spirit as guests mingled with their future neighbours, enjoyed a drink, and caught up on all the latest Fort Largs news.
It is a historic moment for everyone involved, we are thrilled to unveil the beautifully restored Fort, marking the completion of an incredible $10 million heritage restoration project.
The ceremonial first opening of the gates was proudly conducted by Deputy Premier Susan Close, SAPOL Assistant Commissioner Stuart McLean, Fort owner and operator Jarn Jamison, Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan and Peet State Manager Mark Devine.
We are pleased to announce that we have successfully relocated the historic cannons, each weighing approximately 5 tonnes, to their final resting place at Fort Largs.
These purpose-built cannons originally arrived in South Australia in 1898 and served at Fort Largs until its dismantlement in 1928. They were then mounted at Warradale in July 1969.
As part of our heritage conservation efforts, we are proud to reinstate these significant artefacts at Fort Largs, where they will remain for future generations to appreciate.
We look forward to sharing this piece of South Australian history with the community when the Fort officially opens to the public for the first time in its history.
The Fort Eatery will offer the tantalising aroma of wood-fired pizzas to the allure of authentic Italian delicacies, the bounty of fresh seafood, alongside the promise of the finest coffee on the peninsula, there's something to entice every taste bud.
Great food is just the beginning of the reinvigoration of the historic Fort.
