Development Update
December 2023
Work at Jumping Creek is taking shape with the first streets open to the public, the first lots settling, and our brand-new Sales Centre open at the entrance off Ellerton Drive.
The entry sculpture, affectionately known as ‘the ribbon’, will be finalised in the coming weeks. The sculpture is a playful interpretation of the two creek lines that meander through Jumping Creek, and a reminder of the shapes of the mountain backdrop that frames the site. The rusted Corten-steel reminds us of the impact of time on the landscape and the role that all custodians of the site – from First Nations people through to today – have, to protect and nurture the land.
Restoration of the creek lines continues. We have recently undertaken removal of invasive woody weeds within and along the creek lines and replaced them with native plantings to improve outcomes downstream in the Queanbeyan River. We have removed around twenty car bodies from the creeks and surrounds, improving environmental conditions and water flow. Extensive blackberry and hawthorn bush infestation and other invasive weeds and introduced species have been removed across the site.
Water quality control ponds and trash traps are being constructed to help council manage sediment and litter in stormwater from Greenleigh and the new lots at Jumping Creek. This will greatly improve water quality within the creek and downstream into Queanbeyan River.
The pedestrian underpass to Ellerton Drive, which connects Jumping Creek via pathways west towards Jerrabomberra and north-east towards Queanbeyan, will have solar lighting installed and completed in the next few months with Stage 2B. Additional solar uplighting will be installed at the entrance sculpture over the coming month.
Our brand-new Sales Centre is open at the entrance to Jumping Creek at the corner of Ellerton Drive and Jumping Creek Road, from 3.30-5.30pm Monday to Wednesday, and 12noon-2pm Saturday and Sunday. The Centre offers extensive views across the site and a scale model to assist you in your deliberations. Escorted site visits are also available for the discerning buyer. We hope to see you there soon.
Sincerely,
JUMPING CREEK PROJECT TEAM
