Flagstone Hawks soar to victory
Flagstone Netball Club players have celebrated a stellar junior season after winning grand final games across three divisions. The Cadet A Flagstone Hawks reigned at the end of an undefeated season on September 1 with 15 consecutive wins against seven sides.
The Blue Jimboomba Pythons trailed with 12 wins and three losses, followed by Blue Jimboomba Sherberts with 10 wins and Blue Jimboomba Warheads with eight wins. In the Cadet B division, the Flagstone Hummingbirds won the final game of the season but lost on points to the Logan Village Chicks and Wild Wings, both finishing the season with 12 wins. The Flagstone Cadet C team won the grand final and led on the season ladder with 12 wins ahead of Hills College with 10 wins and Blue Jimboomba Starburst with five wins. Flagstone Netball Club secretary Sonia Hasted said all players should be proud of their achievements.
“The highlights for the club is the continual improvement from all the girls to listen and develop their skills. There was a lot of effort put in from volunteer coaches,” she said. Hasted encouraged more women to get involved. “It is such a good team sport. When you are in that team environment it is really good for the mental health of the girls,” she said. “It is encouraging to see those girls keep playing in these sports as they grow older.”
The Flagstone Netball club will benefit from a grant from PDA Flagstone developer PEET to support coaches and improve equipment through Netball Queensland. Members will have an opportunity to meet Australian Diamonds and Sydney Swifts player Paige Hadley at Jimboomba Netball Courts on October 13. The netball season is contested by teams from Flagstone, Hills College, Jimboomba and Logan Village under the Jimboomba Netball Association. Sign on dates for 2019 will be February 2 and 9 at the Jimboomba Netball Courts. For more information, phone 0488 388 444 or email admin@jimboombanetball. com.au.
