Flagstone’s first Catholic school will open its doors in 2026!
It’s the education announcement we’ve all been waiting for – Flagstone’s first Catholic school will open in 2026!
Once all stages of development are complete, St Bonaventure’s College will cater for more than 1800 students from Prep to Year 12 and be part of one of the most reliable education systems in Australia.
The new addition gives families even more choice when it comes to choosing the right school for their children, with excellent schools such as Flagstone State Primary, the state-of-the-art Flagstone State Community College and the prestigious Hills College also nearby.
Located at 15 College Drive, Flagstone - within walking distance from Flagstone’s proposed future train station - St Bonaventure’s College motto will be ‘to know and to love,’ which encapsulates its mission to foster a deep pursuit of knowledge and a genuine love for all of God's creation.
The College will join Brisbane Catholic Education’s 146 schools across the Archdiocese of Brisbane, which ranges from Hervey Bay in the North to Coolangatta in the South.
Leading the College is newly appointed Foundation Principal Anthony Elmore, who brings vast leadership experience to the community.
Anthony, who is currently Principal at St Michael’s College Merrimac, will start in the position next year in the lead up to the school’s opening in 2026. Previous leadership positions include, St Joseph’s College Coomera, and St Peter Claver College Riverview.
Brisbane Catholic Education’s Executive Director Dr Sally Towns said the College would be a quality addition to education options in the region.
“St Bonaventure’s will provide high-quality, accessible education for families in Flagstone and surrounding areas,” she said.
“It will be a cornerstone of excellence in education, supporting the educational needs of this vibrant and expanding area.
“St Bonaventure’s will welcome families from all different backgrounds, cultures, and learning abilities with our mission to create an environment where every student feels valued and supported.
“It will be more than just a school; it will be a place where lifelong friendships are formed and a strong sense of community is built.”
Stage 1 works will include the construction of several new buildings to accommodate the needs of a growing community and deliver new primary and secondary classrooms, as well as a new administration building, library and a multipurpose sports hall. There are also plans to have an Outside School Hours Care service on site run by Catholic Early EdCare.
St Bonaventure’s will be BCE’s 13th school to be rooted within the Franciscan Tradition in Southeast Queensland.
Franciscan education focuses on the service of becoming ‘good people’, men and women of integrity who are equipped with a sensitive moral compass with the ability to discern what is of real and of enduring value, and a commitment to live whole and healthy lives.
The college will draw upon the characteristics of Franciscan Identity, supporting its community to live the Franciscan tradition in all they do through prayer, service, and in kinship with creation.
The school’s logo features the Franciscan Tau cross – a symbol of penance, forgiveness, and mercy - sitting atop the natural creation symbolising St Francis’ love for all creation and our commitment to caring for our common home.
The circular shape showcases the eternal connection of family and community as well as the mountains, creek, and sun represent the traditional lands of Mununjali Country of the Yugambeh language people.
