Commute times for Eden's Crossing drivers halved with opening of new road
23 January 2020 – The commute time for motorists travelling between Eden’s Crossing and Springfield Central has been cut in half with the opening of a new stretch of road today.
‘Wesley Way’ was officially opened this morning, cutting motorists’ driving time from Eden’s Crossing to Brisbane, and shaving 10-minutes off the travel time to Springfield Central’s shopping centre and train station.
The $13.5 million, 1.6-kilometre road connects Mt Juillerat Drive directly onto the Centenary Highway at Redbank Plains.
Member for Bundamba, Jo-Ann Miller MP, said the new road was a game changer for the local community.
“Previously residents had to backtrack through Redbank Plains and Augustine Heights to get to the Centenary Highway. This new road provides them with direct access to the Highway and eliminates two sets of traffic lights saving motorists 10 minutes of commute time,” said Ms Miller.
Project Director, Jonathon Lawson, from Peet Limited said the connection road was triggered by the rapid growth in the new residential community of Eden’s Crossing which is already home to 300 families.
“Eventually Eden’s Crossing will be home to more than 1,200 families.
“This new road is just part of our commitment to ensuring we have the infrastructure in place to support that growth. We’re pleased to help make living more convenient than ever before for our residents,” Lawson said.
Work commenced on the connection road in September 2018 and includes a two-lane arterial road to link Redbank Plains to the Centenary Highway. Wesley Way offers residents a more efficient journey from home to their destination, with only one set of traffic lights and a trunk water main to help facilitate further development within the greater Ipswich City.
Peet Limited will hold a community fun day held on Saturday 14 March in celebration of the new road opening.
